These provide quick, easy access to your cargo and allow you to carry taller type cargo because they fold up out of the way.

·         Hinged Tonneau Covers – There are both hard and soft models of this type that lift up something like a trunk cover on a car. You can get fiberglass models which are painted to match the factory finish of your truck. The hinged type have struts to help with opening and holding the cover open. They provide very easy access to your cargo area but they are not very good if you need to haul taller type cargo.

·         Retractable Tonneau Covers – This type of truck bed cover retracts into a canister located behind the cab of the truck. It is made of vinyl or aluminum slats that are hinged together and move along tracks on either side of the truck bed. They kind of remind me of a roll top desk. There are even a few electric models that open and close with a remote control. Good for taller type cargo’s because you can drive with them opened.

   There is pretty much a truck bed cover for all situations. Just do a little research and know what you want before you purchase one. Consider such things such as if you need to add a ladder rack or a sports rack to carry a canoe or kayak. In this case you would have to purchase one that leaves the stake holes available to accept the rack. You can even buy a model that has a rack included.
